{"id":8762,"date":"2025-10-29T16:46:55","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T16:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8762"},"modified":"2025-10-29T16:46:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T16:46:55","slug":"industry-calls-for-stop-gap-stimulus-to-rescue-house-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/industry-calls-for-stop-gap-stimulus-to-rescue-house-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Industry calls for stop-gap stimulus to rescue house building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Construction Products Association has called on the Chancellor to deliver an emergency stimulus to rescue the flagging house building sector in next month\u2019s Autumn Budget.<\/p>\n<p>The industry body warned the government has \u201cno chance\u201d of meeting its housing target without swift action to restore buyer confidence and kick-start stalled demand across the supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>The call comes as the CPA\u2019s latest forecasts show housing output stuck in neutral \u2014 flat through 2025 and up just 4% at best in 2026 \u2014 after a bruising 14% fall in completions and a 39% collapse in new starts between 2022 and 2024.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"128950\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jctltd.co.uk%2Fnetwork-signup\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/JCT-Network_ConstructionEnq_MPU_300x250px-2025.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Output is now not expected to recover to 2022 levels until at least 2028, with pre-pandemic volumes unlikely to return before 2029\/30. Any Budget-driven tax rises, the CPA warned, could hammer affordability further and choke off recovery altogether.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Noble Francis, CPA economics director, said: \u201cConstruction has already lost more than 11,000 construction firms since the start of 2023, and given the current low levels of house building and home improvement, we expect construction insolvencies to accelerate in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA new positive, time-limited stimulus for house building demand is urgently needed from the government \u2013 particularly for first-time buyers \u2013 before insolvencies further damage skills and capacity throughout the construction supply chain, including architects, builders&#8217; merchants and product manufacturers, as well as house builders and specialist contractors.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"498213\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ardenttide.co.uk%2Farticles%2FWhen-HMRC-Comes-Knocking.aspx%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ardent new.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWithout these firms and their critical skills and capacity, any sustained recovery in house building will be more difficult, slower, and more expensive over the course of this parliament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CPA chair and Siderise Group chief executive Adam Turk added: \u201cOur industry has a responsibility to flag the likelihood of worsening job losses, skills shortages and manufacturing capacity unless this government acts to stimulate growth in this essential sector.
