{"id":8868,"date":"2025-11-05T08:46:38","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T08:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8868"},"modified":"2025-11-05T08:46:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T08:46:38","slug":"first-data-centre-plans-at-blackpools-silicon-sands-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/first-data-centre-plans-at-blackpools-silicon-sands-site\/","title":{"rendered":"First data centre plans at Blackpool\u2019s Silicon Sands site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An application for planning permission is set to go in for the first data centre at the ambitious Silicon Sands digital infrastructure development next to Blackpool Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for a 6MW carbon friendly data centre and 20,000s sq ft office and research space are set to be submitted before Christmas following significant interest from private sector investors.<\/p>\n<p>The Silicon Sands plan builds on the arrival of the transatlantic Aquacomms cable and aims to position the Fylde Coast as a leading location for sustainable data centres and digital innovation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"492636\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwinchmorebrickwork.co.uk%2Fabout-us%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/WINChMORE_JOBS_MPU.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The site would be powered by renewable energy, use liquid immersion cooling to improve efficiency and re-use heat to act as an energy source for other properties.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Mark Smith, Blackpool Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Economy and Built Environment, said: \u201cSilicon Sands is a transformational opportunity for Blackpool. It can create thousands of well-paid jobs, attract investment, and put us at the forefront of sustainable digital development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat vision is proven by the significant interest we have had from the private sector already.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSilicon Sands is about so much more than just data centres though.
