{"id":8986,"date":"2025-11-11T09:46:25","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T09:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8986"},"modified":"2025-11-11T09:46:25","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T09:46:25","slug":"construction-quizzed-over-plans-to-tighten-asbestos-regs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/construction-quizzed-over-plans-to-tighten-asbestos-regs\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction quizzed over plans to tighten asbestos regs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Health and Safety Executive has launched a consultation on proposals to improve the application of the Control of Asbestos Regulations and guidance around asbestos management to help protect construction workers and building users.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation seeks stakeholders\u2019 views on three proposals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To ensure the independence and impartiality of roles in the four-stage clearance process to further minimise the risk of exposure from asbestos to workers and building users after the removal of asbestos<\/li>\n<li>To drive up the standard of asbestos surveys to ensure dutyholders have the information they need to safely manage asbestos risks<\/li>\n<li>To clarify the type of work that constitutes work with asbestos known as Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The consultation is particularly relevant to dutyholders, asbestos analysts, asbestos removal contractors, asbestos surveyors, and associated professions including facilities management and construction.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"128950\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jctltd.co.uk%2Fnetwork-signup\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/JCT-Network_ConstructionEnq_MPU_300x250px-2025.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Rick Brunt, Director of Engagement and Policy\u00a0at <span class=\"il\">HSE<\/span>, said: \u201cAsbestos continues to be a significant risk to workers in Great Britain. While we have made significant progress in managing asbestos risks, these proposals represent an important step towards further strengthening protections for workers and the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to hear from all stakeholders involved in the asbestos regulatory system to ensure our approach is both effective and proportionate, supporting <span class=\"il\">HSE<\/span>\u2019s commitment to protecting people and places whilst enabling innovation and economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The consultation runs until 9 January 2026.
