{"id":8998,"date":"2025-11-12T07:46:48","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T07:46:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8998"},"modified":"2025-11-12T07:46:48","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T07:46:48","slug":"mps-call-for-radical-overhaul-of-infrastructure-delivery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/mps-call-for-radical-overhaul-of-infrastructure-delivery\/","title":{"rendered":"MPs call for radical overhaul of infrastructure delivery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"333\" data-end=\"505\">A cross-party group of MPs has warned that systemic failures in government project delivery risk derailing Britain\u2019s infrastructure ambitions unless ministers act fast.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"507\" data-end=\"767\">In a new report, <em data-start=\"524\" data-end=\"550\">Building a Better Future<\/em>, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Project Delivery (APPGPD) calls for a radical shift in the way Whitehall plans and delivers major national projects.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"507\" data-end=\"767\">The inquiry found too many schemes fall into a \u201cvalley of death\u201d between political ambition and delivery reality, with projects delayed, over budget, and losing momentum through bureaucracy and ministerial churn.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"507\" data-end=\"767\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"502085\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sisk.com+\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Construction Enquirer_Mobile MPU_Sept25 - FINAL.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1499\">The report urges ministers to strengthen project skills across Whitehall, protect long-term schemes from short-term politics, and establish a National Infrastructure Delivery Skills Roadmap to tackle the talent gap.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1778\">Other recommendations include mandatory project management training for senior civil servants and giving the National Infrastructure and Systems Transformation Authority (NISTA) powers to oversee projects from policy to completion.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1778\">It calls for much earlier supplier involvement in procurement. This would include bringing project specialists\u00a0 in at the policymaking phase and ensure project delivery skills and expertise are built in from inception.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1778\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"492636\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwinchmorebrickwork.co.uk%2Fabout-us%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/WINChMORE_JOBS_MPU.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1778\">This should be accompanied by Departmental benchmarks and clear targets for the proportion of officials who are delivery-focused professionals.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"985\" data-end=\"1280\">APPG chair Henry Tufnell MP said: \u201cIf we want to build the infrastructure that changes people\u2019s lives, we need to get serious about the changes required to make that happen.
