{"id":9060,"date":"2025-11-13T10:47:01","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T10:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=9060"},"modified":"2025-11-13T10:47:01","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T10:47:01","slug":"construction-hangs-on-to-growth-as-new-orders-rebound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/construction-hangs-on-to-growth-as-new-orders-rebound\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction hangs on to growth as new orders rebound"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Construction output crept up again in September as a jump in new work offset another slowdown in repair and maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>Latest official figures from the ONS show output rose by just 0.2% on the month, driven by a 0.7% uplift in new work but dragged back by a 0.5% fall in repair and maintenance. <\/p>\n<p>It is the third sluggish output reading in a row and adds up to a stagnant 0.1% rise overall in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"495477\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Feu1.hubs.ly%2FH0psj870\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/FreeOffer.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>There was brighter news in new orders, which climbed nearly 10% over the quarter \u2014 helped by a rebound in private commercial and industrial projects.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, the pace of growth remains subdued as investor confidence stays fragile and housing continues to act as a drag.<\/p>\n<p>McBains managing director Clive Docwra said the figures offered some hope as the industry anticipates a grinding few months ahead.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cToday\u2019s figures will at least provide some degree of comfort ahead of what many expect to be a difficult winter for the construction industry.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"93789\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionline.co.uk%2Fevents%2Fattending-marketplace-live%2F%3Futm_source%3Dreferral%26utm_medium%3Dconstruction_enquirer%26utm_campaign%3Dall_mpl_supplier%26utm_year%3D2025%26utm_content%3Dad_gif\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/constructionline ezgif.com-speed.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cHowever, it\u2019s still a mixed bag \u2013 while we welcome new work increasing by 0.7% in September and the private commercial sector witnessing growth over the month, performance over the last quarter as a whole remains sluggish, with new orders falling by 0.2% and private housing by a worrying 1.9%.
