{"id":9090,"date":"2025-11-17T09:46:44","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T09:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=9090"},"modified":"2025-11-17T09:46:44","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T09:46:44","slug":"client-sentenced-after-worker-found-dead-on-london-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/client-sentenced-after-worker-found-dead-on-london-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Client sentenced after worker found dead on London site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A construction client has been handed a suspended prison sentence after a worker was found dead on a building site in London.<\/p>\n<p>Moses Meisels received a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for one year, and was ordered to pay \u00a310,000 in costs City of London Magistrates Court due to his role in the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Police discovered the man\u2019s body at the site of a synagogue development at Upper Clapton Road, in Hackney, in December 2018.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"474739\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbrilliantideasltd.co.uk%2Falimats%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6507-BI---Alimats-MPU---Constuction-Enquirer_01_s2.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Although the worker had died as a result of natural causes, subsequent inspections by the HSE revealed multiple life-threatening safety failures at the site.<\/p>\n<p>Meisels was overseeing major structural work to enlarge the synagogue, but he repeatedly ignored warnings about dangerous practices \u2013 putting construction workers at serious risk of fatal falls.<\/p>\n<p>Following the discovery of the man\u2019s body, HSE inspectors conducted four separate visits in a five-month period, where they uncovered a catalogue of serious failures including:<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"93789\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionline.co.uk%2Fevents%2Fattending-marketplace-live%2F%3Futm_source%3Dreferral%26utm_medium%3Dconstruction_enquirer%26utm_campaign%3Dall_mpl_supplier%26utm_year%3D2025%26utm_content%3Dad_gif\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/constructionline ezgif.com-speed.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Workers operating on the roof beyond the protection of scaffolding edge barriers<\/li>\n<li>Large, unprotected holes in the ground floor creating fall risks into the basement below<\/li>\n<li>A single unsecured ladder as the only access to the first floor, which didn\u2019t extend far enough to provide a safe handhold<\/li>\n<li>Construction waste dangerously stacked in the front garden<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At City of London Magistrates Court, Meisels ofStoke Newington, pleaded guilty to breaching Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
