Work to overhaul two of Nottingham\u2019s most notorious bottlenecks is set to start in 2026 after the Transport Secretary signed off plans to upgrade the A52 Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft roundabouts.<\/p>\n

The approval follows a public inquiry triggered by National Highways\u2019 Compulsory Purchase Order and Side Roads Order for land needed to push the scheme forward.<\/p>\n

A Griffiths Farrans joint venture has been confirmed as main contractor and will now complete final design ahead of early works getting under way once the six-week appeal window closes.<\/p>\n

The major upgrade will enlarge both roundabouts, change layouts, and carve a new cut-through across the middle of the islands to keep traffic flowing between the A52\u2019s east\u2013west approaches. The job also includes full signal upgrades and new pedestrian crossings to improve safety.<<\/p>\n

The JV has previously completed improvements to four smaller junctions along the corridor at Bingham, Stragglethorpe, Silverdale and Gamston since 2021.<\/p>\n

The Knight and Wheatcroft islands represent the final and biggest phase of the A52 upgrade programme<\/p>\n
